| | Karen HillDirector of Development (617) 738-2700 Mount Holyoke College - B.A. Rice University - M.A. Raised in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, I lived in Texas for eighteen years before returning to Boston in 2003 to assume the position of Director of Development at Beaver. I had worked as DOD of two social service organizations in Austin, which was very rewarding, but I am equally grateful to be a part of the BCDS community as an administrator and a parent (Katie Haigler 06, Taylor Haigler 08, and Laura Haigler 10). It is a real joy to communicate to parents and alumni what is distinctive about a Beaver education, and to help them see how their gifts and volunteer efforts continue to strengthen the school. |
Jill HensonDirector of Annual Giving (617) 738-2718 University of New Hampshire - B.S. I grew up in a small southern NH town that had a movie/convenience store/post office and that's about it! I figure-skated my way out of boredom and eventually found my way to Boston after college. Ran the Boston marathon twice and realized that my body just wasn't interested in all the abuse and stopped running for the distance and started running for pleasure and exercise.
On a professional note, I worked on the Beaver campaign for a little over two years at which point I moved to Chapel Hill, NC, where my husband attended business school. During my time in the south, I worked at Duke University as an assistant director of the annual fund and reunion giving. I loved my time at Duke, but am thrilled to be back in the Beaver community as the director of annual giving.

Shira Lewin '92Director of Alumni Relations (617) 738-2749 Hobart and William Smith Colleges - B.A. Columbia University - M.S. Jewish Theological Seminary - M.A. I came to BCDS in seventh grade, in 1986, and some of my inspirational teachers are still here (John Clippinger, Tom Manning, Sandy Horwitz, Peter Gow and Debi Ellman). I played sports (lacrosse, basketball & soccer), appeared in a few plays, and traveled with my Spanish class to Madrid during my senior year. I graduated in 1992 and although Ive only been back at the Beav since early 2005, sometimes I feel like I never left.
The years away were spent at college and graduate school in New York, then, for newer and more progressive experiences, I lived in San Francisco. I worked there as a fundraiser in the Jewish community for 3 years. In 2003, I moved back to Boston with my husband Aaron to work in Development at the Anti-Defamation League and start a family. Shortly after my son Jonah arrived in 2004, I began working in Beavers Development Office. In 2008 my daughter Livya joined our family. Working with BCDS alumni is a fun trip to the past -- I love it!

Jan DevereuxDirector of Communications (617) 738-2748 Princeton University - B.A. Columbia University - M.B.A. I grew up in a small beach community in northern Florida, the youngest child of transplanted New Englanders. In a resort town devoted to leisure sports, my involvement in sports was never merely recreational; from a very early age I was deeply involved in competitive sports. I joined a swim team when I was five and held all the pool records for the under-6 age group, mostly because I was one of the only kids that age who could swim a whole lap of the pool! I rode in horse shows for several years, took up tennis when I was eleven, and right away started playing tournaments all over the state and the country. I was ranked in the top 10 nationally in my age group and figured Id turn pro and skip college, until it dawned on me, as a high school senior, that I was missing a lot of fun spending so much time on the tennis court. I played on the tennis team in college but my heart wasnt in it; by that time I had discovered my intellectual interests, especially in English and writing. Being an English major in the early 80s didnt hold much sway in the job market, so I got an MBA in marketing to convince employers I could do something more practical (and lucrative) than write essays. I convinced them, but I could never convince myself that business was what I was meant to do. Ive lived and worked in Manhattan, Paris, and Cambridge, always with writing or marketing in some part of my job description. I first came to Beaver as a parent when the oldest of my three children (Graham Lloyd 07) enrolled as a sixth grader. When the communications position opened up in 2005, I jumped at the chance to work in an independent school setting and for an institution whose mission I enthusiastically support. |
Katherine BoylanCampaign Associate (617) 738-2720 Wheaton College (MA) - B.A. I grew up on the north shore of Staten Island (the forgotten borough of New York City), with a family of passionate public school educators. Feeling that education should be part of my professional path after graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Wheaton College in 2004, I sought out a career where I could be involved with a school
though not necessarily in the classroom. Working for the development office at Beaver has been the perfect fit in that I feel I am working to support a nurturing, special environment for students and families. In addition to coordinating events, scheduling campaign meetings, keeping overly-detailed lists, and assisting the Director of Development, I maintain the schools archives. I very much enjoy working with the alumni community to preserve their Beaver histories and memories. As of this fall, I will be a graduate student at Simmons College, working towards a master of science in library science and information technology. I enjoy triathalon sports (but not all at once!), playing classical piano, learning about music history, literary and film theory, and being a member of the Posse Foundations alumni council.
